Physical Therapy in the Home Health Care Setting

So what exactly does a home health physical therapist do?

If your doctor has ordered physical therapy (PT) as part of your home health plan of care, then Ambi’s will assign a licensed physical therapist to work with you in your home. Like all of our home health providers, your physical therapist works under the supervision of your nurse as a member of your home health care team. Both the type of physical therapy that you receive and the number of visits you require will be determined by your doctor with assistance from your Ambi’s Home Health Care team. Your physical therapist provides any equipment that you may need to complete your therapy in the home.

The primary goal of the home health physical therapist (PT) is to enable patients to regain “functional mobility” and independence physical therapy may also help alleviate much of the pain resulting from accents and operations. Oftentimes, a physical therapist will use therapeutics, exercise, manual therapy and other techniques to help patients restore movement and increase range of motion lost because of a stroke, fracture, or surgical event like a hip or knee replacement.

In some cases, home health patients may require both physical and occupational therapy, which treat for different things. Either way, it’s the therapist’s job to help help guide your physical rehabilitation so that you can continue to live as safely and independently as possible.
